Oh the Summer Heat

Call us to discuss options
Yes,  it's summer and it is hot.  This is a time of year that you can make many observations of things to do to get rid of the extra heat.  Is your house warm?  Maybe you don't have enough attic insulation.  That's right,  insulation works to keep your  attic heat out.as well as in.  So adding insulation is not only good for keeping the heat in during the winter months, it is good to keep the outside summer heat out.  Walls can let heat in if poorly insulated as well.  All these things can be fixed.  The extra interior heat makes your appliances work even more using more electricity, keep this in mind.

Ventilation issues.  Yes are ventilation systems working and allowing the heat to vent outside, especially during the evening cooling time?  Do you have a ridge vent?  If so,  are your soffits vented as well?  Again, these are important things to keep in mind and make sure the systems are working all year.

Your home works with many building science concerns and issues throughout the year.  The summer heat can hurt the performance of many areas of your home.  Things like your exterior paint job, aging your roof shingles,  too much excessive heat causing discomfort, conndensation from the daytime heat and nightime cooling are just a few concerns.  Summer can show you many home issues. Mold and mildew can show up during these varied summer conditions.  Is your air conditioning system working overtime?  Again could be ventilation and insulation issues.  All these items are easy to correct and low cost.  Remember the tax incentive is still around.

Hope this information helps.  Feel free to contact me to discuss any home issues. QCR 603 644-2122
